A different lens
Horror is a way of processing the injustices women endure.
That mentality is at the heart of Matriarchs of Horror , the podcast and editorial project Sandra created to explore horror through a feminist lens.
Through essays, interviews, book recommendations, and cultural criticism, she examines what horror reveals about women's lived experiences.
Sandra treats horror as more than entertainment. To her, it is a cultural record; a place where fears hidden in ordinary life become impossible to ignore.
Her mission
Make hidden systems visible.
- Who has the power to define what is normal, safe, desirable, or dangerous?
- Whose experiences are believed; and whose are dismissed?
- What happens when women refuse the roles written for them?

What she is building now
Sandra is bringing the different strands of her work together through continued journalism, Matriarchs of Horror, her first book, podcasting, speaking, and collaborations with publishers and cultural organizations.
The formats change; the throughline does not. Her work asks people to look more closely at the stories that shape women’s lives and at the power structures those stories can conceal.
When she is not reporting, writing, or recording, Sandra can usually be found searching New York’s vintage stores, reading something unsettling, or spending time with her husband and their opinionated Siamese cat, Taco.
